section

Marcos Llorente Moreno

Age :- 22
Playing position :- Defensive Midfielder / Deep Lying Playmaker

“Will I be at Madrid next season? Yes, that's what the club told me. They conveyed the confidence that they have in me" - Marcos Llorente

'Way to Real Madrid' :-

Born in Madrid, Llorente joined Real Madrid's youth setup in 2008, aged 13. In July 2014, after impressing with the Juvenil squad, he was promoted straight to the reserves by manager Zinedine Zidane.

On 24 August 2014, Llorente made his senior debut, starting in a 1–2 away loss against Atlético Madrid B for the Segunda División B championship. He appeared in 25 matches during the campaign, totalling 1,637 minutes of action.

Llorente spent the 2015 pre-season with the first team. He made his professional – and La Liga – debut on 17 October of that year, coming on as a second-half substitutefor Mateo Kovačić in a 3–0 home win over Levante UD.

On 10 August 2016, Llorente was loaned to La Liga club Deportivo Alavés for one season. After Impressing at Alaves in 2016/17 season, he has been recalled by Real Madrid for 2017/18 season and will be part of the squad for upcoming season.

'Strengths as a player' :-

Llorente is a good tackler, and is capable of keeping hold of the ball, i.e. does not lose possession easily. Is dominant in air as well. Has awareness of opposition players within dangerous areas and is a powerful shooter of ball.
He is a good long passer and enjoys making passes from the final third.

Last season his passing and defending stats are as follows :-
Successful pass rate :- 87%
Key passes per game :- 0.6
Long balls per game :- 6.1
Tackles per game :- 3.8
Fouls per game :- 1.4

'Weaknesses as a player' :-

Marcos Llorente don't have any significant weaknesses. His stats last season were good as per his playing position.
Just needs some development in his defensive attributes, apart from it everything is fine.

'Can he be a great player in future ? Who he can replace in coming years ?'

He has been a mature player since his La Fabrica days, and the way he performed last season with Deportivo Alaves, there are no doubts about it that if he continues playing like that , he will be a big star in future.

After Xabi Alonso left for Bayern Munich in 2014, we have not found his proper replacement yet. Casemiro is great when it comes to defending but he lacks other attributes of midfield.

The way Xabi used to do his job of a defensive midfielder as well as deep lying playmaker was great and Casemiro has struggled in doing so, he finds it difficult to perform deep lying playmaker role.
So in my opinion Llorente is an ideal replacement for Xabi Alonso. And if he continues to perform like he did last season, I won't be surprised if he is chosen over Casemiro. Casemiro deserves to play as well but you all know that the better one is always preferred.

With the kind of squad we have, Llorente can learn a lot of things from midfielders like Kroos , Modric, Isco and might also enjoy company of young midfielders like Ceballos and Kovacic.

A lot of things are there but if it goes upto expectations, Llorente can be our next Xabi Alonso. He can fill the gap of deep lying playmaker we have in our squad and can perform his task nicely when it comes to defending.
